In late February Netflix's latest hit, "Code 8 Part 2," released and quickly became the most watched film globally on the streaming service.

Set in the near future the sequel sees police forces using non-lethal K9 robots, similar to dogs. When it came to bringing these K9 robots ’to life’ Canada based boutique VFX studio PLAYFIGHT worked with CGHERO to find the perfect 3D modeller.

Of working with CGHERO Brian Huynh had these kind words:

"CGHERO was crucial to bolstering our talent pool over the course of a year and a half from pre-production straight through to final delivery. The ongoing support from the CGHERO team afforded us agile solutions that made sense for our 2D/3D pipelines and overall management team without the added weight of HR or additional training."

Through the CGHero platform PLAYFIGHT were able to quickly identify and start a working dialogue with super talented 3D creature artist Damien Guimoneau with support on rigging from fellow Hero Rene Vidra. Damien has worked on design and modelling on feature films including the Lion King (2019), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), Alien Covenant (2017) and TV series His Dark Materials. His work on Code 8 Part 2 included modelling and texturing the fearsome K9 robot used prominently in the movie

Speaking to Damien about his contributions to Code 8 Part 2 he had this to say:

“I was absolutely thrilled to be part of the "Code 8" project. The opportunity to contribute to such a dynamic and innovative endeavour was truly a highlight of my career.

As someone who thrives in the freelance environment, I deeply appreciate the autonomy it provides. The ability to manage my own schedule and workload not only allows me to maintain a healthy work-life balance but also serves as a wellspring of inspiration for my creative endeavours.

Being able to dictate my own workflow enables me to explore new techniques, experiment with different styles, and ultimately, push the boundaries of my creativity.

For several years now, I've chosen to diversify my focus across multiple domains within the realm of 3D art. This includes modelling, texturing, and look development. Embracing this multifaceted approach has allowed me to cultivate a holistic understanding of the visual storytelling process.

By seamlessly integrating modelling and texturing, I can ensure that every aspect of my work contributes cohesively to the final product. Moreover, engaging in look development enables me to refine the aesthetic appeal of the project, fine-tuning details and making iterative adjustments until the desired outcome is achieved.

This iterative process, characterized by constant feedback loops and refinement, is where the magic truly happens, as it allows me to sculpt the project's visual identity with precision and finesse.”
